Pier 121 Marina is a private facility with over 1,000 slips located on Lewisville Lake in the Dallas/Fort Worth Texas area. The Marina was heavily damaged by an ice and wind storm in December, 2013. MSL was retained by an independent adjuster to provide a damage assessment, to evaluate pre-existing conditions, to provide a project reconstruction model and timetable based on minimal business interruption and to review contractor proposals. At the request of the insurers, MSL oversaw the redesign of an upgraded electrical service and distribution system required by code and saved the insurers several million dollars over the cost of a system engineered by the owner’s consultant. MSL was also directly involved in negotiations concerning an evaluation of betterment involved in redesign of the damaged docks. MSL provided monitoring of the replacement construction as well as assistance in evaluating loss due to business interruption. The adjusted cost of property damage exceeded $12 million.
